Dear Friend of Children,

Rally to Save Child Care, 2010

  • The Senate and Assembly Sub-committees held hearings on May 25, 2011. CCCI was represented by our Executive Director, Debra Eison and Board President, Deborah Vallejo, who gave public testimony at both hearings.
  • The Senate subcommittee voted to revoke the 10% cut to the State Reimbursement Rate (SRR) proposed in SB 69.
  • The Assembly subcommittee voted to revoke ALL of the cuts made to child development this past March in SB 70. This includes: restoring the 10% cut to the SRR and 15% cut to contracts, restoring care for 11 and 12 year olds, returning the State Median Income eligibility income ceiling to 75% instead of 70%, and reversing the 10% increase in parent fees.

Next Steps

  • The subcommittees will take these decisions back to the full budget committees in both the Senate and Assembly next week.
  • We need to keep the pressure on as both houses will need our support to keep these decisions in the final budget package due June 15, 2011.
  • Please call and thank our legislators for voting to protect education programs for California's children.
  • Members from the CCCI Advocacy Team will continue to meet with key people at the capitol and at local offices until a budget is passed. Please let us know if you would like to be involved making visits to your legislator. Children can participate as well, especially at local offices.
